About Legal Line

Legal Line is a Federal not-for-profit organization providing Canadians with access to the laws under which we are governed. Our free answers give people the information they need to make informed decisions that impact everyday life. Our Legalline.ca website came online in 1995 and currently receives 5 million page views annually. To date, over 32 million enquiries have been answered and the numbers are on the rise. Legal Line has continued to expand and now includes: • Legal information covering all Canadian provinces and territories • over 1,000 easy-to-understand answers • Answers provided in 107 languages • Answers organized within 40 major areas of law • Free Guides and Flyers provided in 23 languages (including Indigenous: Ojibwa, Cree, Iroquois), and in Braille • Two bestselling legal books, Your Guide to Canadian Law, and Canadian Criminal Records and How to Start Fresh; with a third book • 650 consulate offices now participate in Legal Line’s Foreign Embassy Alliance Program providing legal help for Canada’s 250,000 new immigrants each year Our 575 legal experts help to keep the information accurate, while our Board of Advisors — all experts in their respective areas — assist in directing the future endeavours of Legal Line. In addition, over 8,000 community agencies and government channel partners across Canada have joined us in our efforts by displaying and distributing free Legal Line materials, and by promoting Legalline.ca on their websites. Legal Line is used by a wide-range of audiences including: • individuals • the business community • students and educational institutions • lawyers and their clients • financial industry • insurance industry • global partners • foreign consulates both in and out of Canada • all levels of Canadian government
