About LesPlan Educational Services
LesPlan Educational Services Ltd. has provided schools with current events resources since 1990. Our goal is to help teachers develop students' understanding of and ability to critically assess current issues and events by providing quality, up-to-date, affordable, ready-to-use resources. We currently offer the following publications in English and in French: 1) Currents4Kids - an engaging, online interactive weekly current events resource. (Grades 3 and up.) 2) The Canadian Reader - a monthly classroom-ready current events resource (Grades 3 and up.) 3) What in the World? - a monthly current events resource. (Level 1: Grades 5 - 7) and (Level 2: Grades 8 - 10). A full-year subscription costs just $190. Subscribers can share each issue with all teachers and students within one school. Our skilled and experienced team of teachers, writers, and illustrators select the previous month's top news stories, then create age-appropriate, leveled stories summarizing the key points and perspectives for students. We include the background information often lacking from traditional news stories – as well as key vocabulary definitions – to help students understand the issues, and strive to present all sides of any debate. Our aim is to foster understanding and develop critical thinking skills so that students can develop their own opinions on each story we cover.
