About Lev Leytzan: The Heart of Therapeutic Clowning
Established in 2004, Lev Leytzan is a non-profit medical clowning organization 501(c)(3) based in Lawrence, New York. We BELIEVE that laughter has the power to heal bodies, minds, and spirits. We also believe that compassionate medical clowning is a serious business that takes training and dedication. Our MISSION is to train compassionate youth and adults in the art of medical / therapeutic clowning so that they may help heal others with doses of laughter, joy, and empowerment. All of our volunteer and professional clowns receive specialized training to be able to work with doctors and nurses in order to help patients. We VISIT the medically ill and residents at hospitals, nursing homes, senior centers, special needs camps, and private homes in the US and abroad. We’ve even flown to Eretz Yisroel and Europe. Our playful, free-form engagement not only lifts the spirits of the sick, it has actually been shown to have an impact on the healing process. Medical studies have shown that children who are treated to visits from medical clowns actually recover faster and leave the hospital sooner than children who don’t have these visits.
