About Life Academy
SA Life Academy was founded in 2016 by Executive Director Cindy Boynton and her husband Bryan. After their youngest son Drew, who has Down Syndrome and Autism, graduated from high school, Cindy Boynton recognized the need for a continuing education option for individuals with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) that simply did not exist in the San Antonio area. Cindy and Bryan visited a wonderful program in Plano called My Possibilities and were determined to bring a like-minded program to this area. The mission of SA Life Academy is to enrich the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through continuing education focused on intellectual, social, health, creative, and community involvement skills and opportunities. Our curriculum, which is designed by certified Special Education teachers is centered on relationship building, expressive creativity, achieving independence, community outreach, and health and wellness. SA Life Academy also contracts with specialists throughout the community to offer classes such as gardening, art, yoga, and recreational therapy. In 2017, SALA opened our first class serving 22 adults weekly. As of August 2024, we serve 136 clients weekly in six classes. While the number of students served has increased, our commitment to quality remains.
