About Lifting Hearts with the Arts

Lifting Hearts with the Arts, a nonprofit organization founded in April 2020 by then-high school students, aims to help bridge generational gaps by connecting youth and seniors one-on-one or in group settings through the arts. It is run exclusively by college and high school students. Initially, the organization’s programming focused on pairing high school or college students with seniors at long-term care facilities for weekly or biweekly one-on-one virtual conversations to build friendships. As pandemic-imposed restrictions began to lessen, and needs of volunteers, seniors and care facility partners began to shift, Lifting Hearts adapted existing programming by hosting virtual group activities as well as in-person opportunities for volunteers to visit their senior friends inside care facilities. Through larger-scale events, such as virtual holiday concerts and a virtual fun run, as well as grants, donations and partnerships, the organization has raised over $15,000 for donations and to cover operating costs. This funding also ensures that all Lifting Hearts programs are free and accessible to prospective participants. Currently, the organization offers a program for high school students and residents of long-term care facilities as well as newer initiatives called CoGen Creations, Coll-AGE and Multigen Modules, each of which are detailed on our website.
