About Light & Dark Matters

We are an association dedicated to protecting and promoting the natural balance of light and darkness. Our mission focuses on reducing light pollution, improving indoor lighting quality, supporting a healthy lifestyle, protecting biodiversity and nocturnal ecosystems, and enhancing safety in nighttime environments. Why? Because light pollution and low quality lighting kills an order of magnitude more lifes than trafic accidents. We pursue these goals through educational, research, and advocacy activities, collaborating with public institutions, industry, businesses, and the general public to promote sustainable lighting solutions and safeguard the nighttime environment. To fulfill our mission, we engage in a wide range of activities, including publishing and analytical work, legal initiatives, and organizing cultural, artistic, and educational events. Operating primarily at the Czech national and EU levels, we work with partners worldwide. To support our efforts, we may engage in economic activities, including running an e-shop, with all proceeds dedicated exclusively to achieving our core purpose.
