About Light Place

LIGHT PLACE is a non-profit organisation that uses public arts-based processes to illuminate place by engaging with socio-economic and spatial inequalities. Rooted in local communities, we use creative research and practices for inclusive, collaborative, and creative approaches to justice, resilience, and economic opportunity. LIGHT PLACE is a constellation of ideas, desires, resonances and gatherings. In LIGHT PLACE’s work, LIGHT is a medium, object, and tool used to illuminate a place, the political, the social, local heritage and lived experiences of people. LIGHT as a medium communicates and can hold multiple complexities of meaning. As an object LIGHT reveals echoes of home, public place, institutions, and technologies. In LIGHT PLACE’s work, PLACE foregrounds context, and local knowledge alongside social and political dynamics. PLACE informs project aesthetics, forms, processes, and structures. PLACE is also about the less visible social networks and personal relationships that make meaningful projects possible.
