The creation of Lipid Nanotechnologies, LLC is based upon the research of Dr. Steve Lenhert, Assistant Professor, Department of Biology & Integrative Nanoscience Institute at Florida State University. Dr. Lenhert leveraged the talent of his students, who created a business plan for his invention, which won first place in the 2012 Florida State University, Jim Morgan Institute for Global Entrepreneurship & Florida State University College of Business. Dr. Steve Lenhert’s students not only beat all of the other competitors at the Florida State University competition, but also created a new entity that may revolutionize drug discovery. Lipid Nanotech, LLC, has developed a revolutionary and novel method to increase the efficiencies of drug discovery by further miniaturizing the process of high-throughput screening through their patented Liposome Microarray Technology or LiMiT. High-Throughput Screening (HTS) involves the miniaturization and automation of bioassays so that millions of variable drug compounds can be tested in a short amount of time, which is one of the most critical steps in the discovery of new medicines and chemical entities. According to Global Industry Analysts, Inc., the HTS market is expected to reach $19BB by 2017. LiMiT will have three prospective applications that will increase the efficiencies associated with drug discovery via high throughput screening. LiMiT has applicability to research conducted in academia, pharmaceutical/ biotech labs, and government research. Based upon initial feedback, it is perceived that LiMiT will have the following future applications: Gene Therapy, Personalized Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics.
