About Lismor Recordings
First Draft: Lismor Recordings. First established in 1973, Lismor became the most prestigious Scottish music label of its era. Covering every traditional music style in depth and with the very best artists, the company forged a path for other Scottish labels into global sales, music publishing, sales aids to ‘new markets’ in hundreds of non-regular music outlets, creative in-house productions, productions and releases from 4 continents and is still a major influence due to its most impressive catalogue of over 400 albums. By 2002 Lismor had recorded over 400 albums covering all of the broad range of styles of traditional Scottish music; from the simple but beautifulunaccompanied acoustic sounds of harp & fiddle, through the oral vocal traditions of both the Gaels and the travelling people, to the latest sounds of today in popular Scottish song, Scottish country dance, the music, songs & words of Robert Burns, folk music & song and, most importantly, the music of the Great Highland Bagpipe in both solo piping and pipeband formats. In 1990, Lismor took over the Iona Records label which gave the company an extra added strength in traditional Celtic music that fully complimented the ‘traditional Scottish’ output of Lismor, and this too was built upon with the addition to the artist roster of not only some of the countries finest folk musicians but also the cream of the new wave of sharp-edged folk-rock acts. The Iona catalogue grew from the original 13 titles, created by the band Ossian for their album releases plus individual member projects and friend’s concepts, to 71 albums that introduced the folk-rock sounds of Wolstone, Dalriada and Rock Salt & Nails; the ‘modern movement’ of Thoumire/MacKenzie, Tartan Amoebas & Avalon and the ground-breaking ‘techo-folk’ of Paul Mounsey. After Paul much of ‘folk music’ would never be the same again. All of the Lismor & Iona Records releases are still available through downloads on Mp3.
