About Living Child Inc
Living Child was founded in 2013 by midwife Sara David AM. Since then, we have worked to advance maternal health, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), nutrition and community resilience and safety in rural and remote villages in East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. Our projects are driven and implemented by our team in Papua New Guinea (LCPNG), with technical assistance, fundraising support, and awareness-raising from our team in Australia (LCAU). What we do: At the invitation of community leaders, LCPNG partners with remote villages in the Greater Sepik region. We use the internationally acclaimed Care Groups model and the Healthy Islands Concept (HIC) to disseminate health education through a peer-to-peer system, in order to reach every household in the village. The community drives the program, and we provide resources such as flipcharts, water tanks, reusable menstrual hygiene kits, tippy taps and seeds to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to stay healthy. Keeping mothers and babies healthy and safe throughout pregnancy and birth is a vital part of building resilient, healthy communities. We provide maternal health awareness and first aid equipment to Village Health Volunteers and Village Birth Attendants, training them as health promoters and noting their important role in encouraging the women in their villages to seek supervised births in health facilities wherever possible. LCAU supports the initiatives of LCPNG, strengthening the PNG-Australia Partnership. Their operations encompass fundraising, promotional activities, project management, and the provision of high-quality training materials and expert consultancy. Together, we aim to empower communities and enhance health outcomes across the region.
