About Liwan Space for Youth Development

Liwan was launched as a project in August 2018 through a participatory process that engaged a diverse group of young people. Four years later, in 2021 Liwan Youth Space was established as an independent nonprofit organization. Liwan provides a physical (safe) space where young people and supports capacity development, mobilisation and organising in a ‘safe space’ where youth can freely convene, meet, discuss, debate and co-create and organize into groups and initiatives in an environment that stimulates individual growth, are free from discrimination and control and where the agenda is youth-led. This enables youth to take an active part in social change and democratic action towards issues of concern. Liwan believes IF Youth are in a safe and supportive environment with youth-responsive interventions and services with: • Access to opportunities for networking • Receive structured and non-structured learning and capacity building that is action-driven • Practice democratic modalities for decision making THEN •They are empowered to become positive change agents who are confident, competent, connected, and who contribute to their communities. •Can create their own path of self-development and access to different economic opportunities •Able to contribute to co-creating inclusive spaces for youth for action and activism.
