About Local History Hub
Local History Hub is a grassroots, teacher-led social enterprise with a clear mission: to improve how local history is taught in primary schools across the UK. We’re building a national movement from the ground up—championing collaboration, practical support, and a shared commitment to making local history accessible for all. At the heart of our work is a simple idea: when teachers share resources, ideas, and expertise, everyone benefits. Our growing network of Local History Hubs—starting with pilot hubs in Cardiff, Liverpool, Blackburn, Derby, and Cheshire West & Chester—connects schools with each other and with heritage partners, creating strong local networks for place-based learning. Each hub is built around a working party of local teachers and practitioners—a collaborative group that develops resources, shares knowledge, and shapes meaningful, place-based approaches to the curriculum. These working parties are the driving force behind our model, ensuring that everything we do is rooted in the lived experience of the classroom. We're also developing new collaborative initiatives—like Our Homes, Our Stories—designed to deepen children’s understanding of place, identity, and belonging through shared approaches and community engagement. Each April, we celebrate Local History Day, a national event that showcases the incredible local history work happening in schools and communities across the UK—and inspires even more collaboration and connection. Whether you’re a teacher, historian, or heritage organisation, we’d love you to be part of a growing community that's shaping the future of local history education, together.
