About London's Sorry! Comedy Festival
London has always been a funny place. Humour flows through this city like the river it’s situated around, with a current of comedic talent that can be seen on stages across Canada. In 2019, seeing the rapid development of talent in the region, a couple of comedy producers founded a local festival called “London Laughs.” After a successful first year, they were ready for round two, but the pandemic froze their plans indefinitely. As the world thawed from this global event, the London comedy scene found itself scattered and in disarray. After a few years of waiting, one of the original producers gathered a group of local stand-up comedians to establish the London Comedy Festival. This three-night event spanned the entire city, with laughter echoing from various local establishments. London Comedy was back, but something was missing. The festival producers agreed that the new festival lacked the variety of the original. They wanted to combine the gung-ho DIY nature of the new festival with the collaborative spirit that the original festival held dear. After some discussions, both the improv and stand-up communities decided to come together and forge a new direction. With a new direction came a new identity. We embraced our hometown’s sarcastic and self-deprecating nature, wanting to play around with modern comedy stereotypes and tell the rest of Canadian comedy, “We’re sorry for being so funny!” With that, and our tongues firmly planted in our cheeks, we present to you: London’s Sorry! Comedy Festival. One last thing: unlike previous festivals, we’re looking past our borders and spreading our comedic vision across this great country. We’re not just leaving our mark; we’re leaving a lasting exclamation mark on our audiences!
