About Look On Media

We work with the latest in 3D roomscale technology such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, as well as 8k 360 videos. Look On Media is the sum of two parts – education and entertainment. For many people, these things are mutually exclusive, which they believe can be fixed with the right application of technology and design. At Look On Media, virtual reality technology is the x-factor utilized to make fun, interactive experiences for industries outside of the gaming world. Co-founders Brian Mahoney and Jonathan Powell met at a games industry meetup in 2013. Brian was deep in development of XCOM2 at Firaxis and Jon was working for an education technology company while moonlighting as an indie game designer. Virtual reality (or VR), as we know it today, was still in its development kit days, but Brian was sold its power and potential. Jon had no idea it would soon consume his life. The two ran into each other again at MAGFest in 2014. This time Jon was showing off his latest mobile game Star Clash as they struck up a conversation about VR and 360 video experiences. Months later sitting at a bar in Fells Point, Brian sang its praises as Jon adorned the GearVR devkit headset for the first time. Kicking around game ideas, convinced the technology was captivating but hesitant about a non-existent consumer base the two started brainstorming how to utilize the new, exciting hardware. It wouldn’t be long before the two were back at the bar talking about education, entertainment, and what would within a year become Look On Media. In Fall of 2015, Jon and Brian had a collective vision. By the end of the year, they had their first VR prototype – a spaceship classroom with the earth and the stars as the backdrop behind the lecture podium. They both left the cozy world of full-time employment and launched excitedly into entrepreneurship within months. Thus, Look On Media was born.
