About Lotus Village United
Lotus Village United, Incorporated was founded in 2022 by Founder and Executive Director Shawnette Haynes. Tribulations through the passage into adulthood and her experience of caring for youth from her own family inspired Shawnette to organize the village supporting fostered youth ages 16-26 who will or have transitioned out of the foster care system in North Carolina and the United States of America in 2020. Shawnette's leadership positions managing long-term sustainment operations include directly performing global supply chain management as a Training Manager, Readiness and Plans Manager, Military Installations Operations, and Asset Manager. Shawnette provided administrative and program support, data analysis, and guidance to various internal and external stakeholders. Booker T. Washington's quote, "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed," emphasizes the importance of resilience, determination, and the ability to overcome challenges on the path to success. The mission at Lotus Village United is to support and guide opportunity youth aging out or aged out of foster care ages 16-26 by providing and advocating for human resources in environments where they can thrive. We envision a world where youth aging out of the foster care system are equipped with the necessary tools to sustain independent living. Lotus Village United conducted a needs assessment focus group in March 2023 to develop as a nonprofit organization with the support of other nonprofit organizations, professionals, and educators. Lotus Village United sought to create a more integrated and holistic approach to addressing the needs of the children in the child welfare system.
