About Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy
Founded in 1995, Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) is a membership-based, volunteer-driven nonprofit in Loudoun County, Va. We PROTECT, PRESERVE, and RESTORE wildlife habitat, shaping a Loudoun where people and wildlife thrive together. Loudoun County is often touted as the “richest” county in America. Before the development boom that began here several decades ago, our “wealth” was measured by the unique, natural beauty of our abundant farmland, streams, meadows, open spaces, and the wildlife that flourished here. Today, the wildlife habitat we cherish and the myriad benefits of nature we depend on face more challenges than ever. For example: “Data Center Alley” in eastern Loudoun features the highest concentration of data centers in the world, with each new center negatively impacting wildlife habitat. Loudoun owns the highest rate of wildlife/vehicle collisions in Virginia due to ongoing species displacement. We lose an estimated 13 acres of wetlands and 20,000 feet of streams annually. Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area are among the places where scientists predict no stars will be visible in 20 years. The spread of invasive plants continues to threaten local ecosystems while posing additional threats to safety, health, and our local economy. There's good news, however: Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is facing each of these challenges — and many more — head-on. Our work is focused on five main areas: EDUCATION CITIZEN SCIENCE HABITAT CONSERVATION CONSERVATION ADVOCACY JK BLACK OAK WILDLIFE SANCTUARY (a local, 89-acre, globally rare wetlands we own, protect, and maintain) Over the last 30 years, we’ve turned numerous challenges into significant wins thanks to our dedicated supporters and volunteers. Add your to a rising chorus of Loudoun residents who wish to preserve the unique beauty of our county for generations to come. Learn how to get involved TODAY at loudounwildlife.org.
