About Louise Brooks Society

Launched in 1995, the Louise Brooks Society™ (www.pandorasbox.com) is a pioneering fansite & online archive devoted to the silent film star best known for iconic bobbed hair and role as Lulu in "Pandora's Box." The mission of the LBS is to honor the actress by stimulating interest in her life, films and writings, as well as her place in 20th century culture. To that end, it helped bring Brooks' own book, "Lulu in Hollywood," and the Louise Brooks biography by Barry Paris back into print. It has also assisted with the restoration of Brooks' films, published five books and numerous articles, conducted research, and organized multiple exhibits, screenings, lectures and other events. The LBS inspired the Emmy nominated documentary, "Louise Brooks: Looking for Lulu," and has assisted others with related projects. Besides its long-running website, the LBS maintains a blog (begun in 2002) other social media accounts. The LBS has been praised by Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin, and in the pages of the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Irish Times and elsewhere. The Louise Brooks Society™ operates with the consent of the Estate of Louise Brooks (Louise Brooks Heirs, LC), and have its permission to use the name and likeness of Louise Brooks in relation to the activities of the LBS. The Louise Brooks Society website is © 1995-2024 "An excellent homage to the art of the silent film as well as one of its most luminous stars" - New York Times "An exemplary website" - Steve Silberman, Wired magazine "My favorite Louise Brooks site belongs to the Louise Brooks Society" - USA Today "A fine example of a fan page, a thoughtful, artful site devoted to the life and times of a fabled silent movie legend" - Jack Garner, Rochester Democrat & Chronicle "The renewed interest in her [is] fueled by the cyberspace Louise Brooks Society" - South China Morning Post
