About Louisiana Mental Health Association
Louisiana Mental Health Association) has been in operation since 1954 when it began as an organization promoting advocacy and education on mental illness and related issues. MHA has grown to include programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness and those at greater risk for suicide. All programs operated by MHA strive to develop independence, self-sufficiency, consumer empowerment and mental wellness of our clients and are provided at no cost to the participant. In July 2019, MHA become the Louisiana statewide affiliate for Mental Health America. Mental Health America and affiliates comprise the sixth (6th) largest nonprofit entity in the United States. Programs of LAMHA include - Fisher Project for Suicide Prevention - A Supervised Peer Based Casework Program for those at greater risk for suicide. - Drop-In Center - A Peer run day center for those with mental health diagnosis providing daily programming and connection to services. One center is in Baton Rouge and a second to open in Morgan City in July 2022. - Target Health and Target Health for Youth - A peer led whole health management program - Statewide Advocacy - LAMHA hosts 10 events around the state in addition to an annual Public Policy Summit and Behavioral Health Day at the Capitol - Annual Conference - Education event providing CEUs for Peers, Social Workers and Lisenced Professional Counselors.
