About Louisiana Women's Initiative

Louisiana Women's Initiative is an L3C encouraging the professional advancement of women in Louisiana. LWI was founded from an inspiring speech Maya Angelou gave to an audience at Louisiana State University in 2013. On stage, she implored the audience "why not you make a difference, if others can why not you!." She left everyone who heard her feeling as though they had found a new power within themselves. LWI aims to capture that call to action and pass on that feeling of empowerment to all women. Through the example of inspirational women, LWI hopes to create a platform which encourages all women to achieve their dreams through earning their education, pursuing professional advancement and contributing to their community through community service. LWI's projects include connecting women with already available resources through our website whynotyou.us, uniting professional women through workplace workshops which provide vital information to advance professionalism in the workplace, a community open access television program which highlights significant women in our community and a clothing resale store which offers affordable professional clothing to women entering or re-entering the workforce. We believe that women are the backbone of our state and empowering them, strengthens all of us.
