About LRF Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk
The Lloyd’s Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (IPUR) at the National University of Singapore was launched in 2017. Established through funding from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and the National University of Singapore, IPUR is the first international research and public outreach institution of its kind in Asia. IPUR seeks to narrow the gap between people’s perceptions and real world risks by undertaking research on the scientific understanding of risk and its practical application through a multi-disciplinary approach. Bringing together science, engineering, social sciences, and humanities, our current research efforts span across three areas: Data and Technology, Environment and Climate, as well as Health and Food Safety. Through outreach activities, IPUR will also enhance public dialogue on risk issues in Asia and internationally. Combined with its research and educational efforts, IPUR aspires to be a world-leading node of excellence to pave the way for policymakers, regulators, business leaders, scientists, and the general public to collectively make better decisions for the betterment of society.
