About Luminary Photography

We are a social enterprise based in Houghton Le Spring, running photography workshops, community projects, exhibitions and opportunities. We work in disadvantaged areas across the North East engaging predominantly with people with experience of mental health issues, neurodiversity and other barriers. We teach photography at every level from the complete beginner with a smartphone to advanced photographers looking to improve their work, after a critical eye over a portfolio or for business advice and mentoring. We support people with learning barriers and experience of mental illness into creative careers. With extensive experience of both practicing and teaching photography, we can tailor our training to you. We develop and deliver socially engaged photography projects using photography to support health and wellbeing, to improve digital skills, to provoke discussion and help communities engage with their local area. We collaborate with other social enterprises and community organisations providing photography, video and other creative services to document the work that they do, raising their profile to beneficiaries and funders alike.
