The Lyric's vision is to provide a forum to today’s finest performers to explore and expand the repertoire of chamber music in the intimate setting for which it was written. We discover, nurture and introduce today’s exceptional young virtuosos to a wide audience. We train and educate tomorrow’s performers, creative thinkers and music lovers with our education programs centered around student created art in music, drama, and creative writing. We teach basic and advanced skills of learning and creative problem solving needed to succeed in a modern global society. The Lyric Chamber Music Society (“The Lyric”) is a concert presenter and an arts education organization. Since its debut in 1998, The Lyric performs traditional and contemporary chamber music and unusual repertoire in an intimate salon setting. “CHAMZZ: Classics for the 21st Century” is a recent Lyric innovation with programs combining classical music and jazz. The Lyric gives young talent the opportunity to perform with eminent musicians in front of a New York audience, to be reviewed by the national press and to be broadcast on National Public Radio. Our current Artist and Composer-in-Residence is pianist Matt Herskowitz, Oscar- and Grammy -nominated performer and composer and winner of the French César for best soundtrack. Our 8 concerts per season are held in venues easily accessible for the elderly and disabled. Since 1998, The Lyric has provided arts education services to New York City Public Schools.
