About MADDA
Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia (MADDA) is a not-for-profit dedicated to reducing the impact of asbestos and other harmful dusts across Australia. The damage caused by asbestos and harmful dusts is permanent, and sometimes fatal. Asbestos-related diseases claim 4,000 Australian lives each year, and silicosis cases are rising - around 584,000 workers are currently exposed to crystalline silica, with nearly half at a high rate. The dangers are very real, particularly for home renovators and the next generation of tradies. To combat this, MADDA focus on: Awareness: Increasing understanding of ongoing asbestos and dust disease risks in our community. Advocacy: Championing better education and compliance to safety standards to protect future tradies. Specialist Support: With lived experience of mesothelioma, our nurse-led team provides specialist care and connection for people living with the disease and their carers – this is unique to MADDA. By working together with industry, we can help protect our workplaces, support those affected, and drive lasting change on asbestos and dust disease risks.
