About Maggie's Toronto Sex Workers Action Project
Maggie's Toronto Sex Workers Action Project is the nation's oldest sex worker justice initiative offering wrap-around supports to current and former sex workers across Toronto and the GTA. Our core programming includes street outreach and community engagement across Toronto's downtown east end; case management services offering long-term, individualized supports, accompaniments and broad-based life/financial/family planning services; Public health services including monthly vaccine and testing clinics, referrals to community-specific, culturally-informed healthcare services and best practices training for healthcare providers; Harm reduction services providing and educating communities on safer sex and safer drug use materials, protocols and testing frameworks; weekly drop in programming including community-specific spaces for parents, LGBTQ2s+ and racialized communities; social, political and legal advocacy for communities navigating precarious and complex circumstances related to criminalization, stigma and discrimination. Our team offers training, workshops and best practices frameworks to a wide-range of stakeholders engaging current and former sex workers through their services: outreach and community engagement workers, non-profit organizations and social service agencies, service providers in the legal, healthcare and education sectors, and municipal, provincial and federal divisions of government. We operate on the belief that whether current and former sex workers choose to remain in or exit their respective industries, they alone are best equipped to exercise agency over their personal and professional lives. Access to our programming, services and supports is not contingent on exiting sex work, rather we operate on a harm reduction model, prioritizing principles of anti-racism and anti-oppression, trauma-informed models of care and harm reduction frameworks.
