The Maintenance Cooperation Trust Fund (MCTF) is a nationally-recognized statewide watchdog that works to eliminate illegal and unfair business practices in the janitorial industry in California. We believe that legal, responsible business practices provide the necessary stability to create sustainable upward mobility for all stakeholders. Our investigators, former janitors themselves, work with janitors to identify potential employment law violations and expose unlawful business practices. We partner with responsible janitorial contractors as well as local, state and federal enforcement agencies to hold law-breaking employers accountable in the industry. The MCTF was established in 1999 to combat the growth of the underground economy in the janitorial industry. Since our founding, the MCTF has won more than $80 million in back wages, referred more than 40 illegal operators for criminal prosecution, and brought over 8,000 jobs from the predatory underground economy into the formal economy. A partner on landmark legislation to protect janitors through a statewide registry, the MCTF is recognized for cutting-edge work in public-community enforcement partnership.
