About Make Votes Matter
Make Votes Matter is the cross-party campaign for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons. Seats in Parliament should match how people vote - and every vote should count, regardless of where you live or who you vote for. There are three strands to the campaign; The Alliance - https://www.makevotesmatter.org.uk/the-pr-alliance/ We're building the Make Votes Matter Alliance of pro-reform parties, organisations and individuals, at a leadership level - to work together to get rid of the outdated and undemocratic First Past the Post system. Labour Campaign - https://www.makevotesmatter.org.uk/labour4pr/ To make Proportional Representation a reality, it will almost definitely need the support of one of the two biggest parties. Make Votes Matter works closely with Labour members to help persuade the party to commit to PR. The arguments for Labour to back PR are overwhelming. A vast majority of Labour voters support a fair, proportional voting system. Our task is to enable the debate so that this position becomes Labour's official policy. A third of Labour MPs support PR and the number's growing. The key thing that needs to happen is for local Labour parties to pass resolutions calling on Labour to back PR. Working with the Labour Campaign for Electoral Reform, we've trained speakers to go to Constituency Labour Parties (CLPs), lead discussions on PR, and enable members to make up their minds - and we find the vast majority agree with us 78 CLPs have passed motions so far. The Grassroots - https://www.makevotesmatter.org.uk/find-local-group/ We're building a grassroots movement to press politicians for a fair, proportional voting system. This is made up of local groups campaigning for fair votes across the UK, alongside key volunteers and activists taking part in Make Votes Matter events, action days, and lobby events. Join the movement for Proportional Representation so we can win real democracy in the UK!
