Whether you have a following of one, or ten-thousand, you have influence. Intentional or not, our actions define the group norms within our social circles. These norms are the guardrails for what is acceptable (and unacceptable) behavior within the group. We have a responsibility to be more conscious in how we show-up and behave. Group norms inform societal cultural norms, so even though your actions may feel insignificant, they have real global impact. Influence has many forms. • Speaking up against degrading group commentary. • Encouraging the group to use less plastic. • Expressing your Covid boundaries around personal and public safety. • Masking up in situations that could be dangerous for those vulnerable. • Being mindful to not post photos on social media that encourage unsafe or hurtful behaviors. • Modeling behavior that prioritizes the well-being of all, versus your own short-term comfort.
