About Making History
Making History is a celebrity led schools-based film project exploring social, cross cultural, cross-generational stories from personal family history. Using innovative approaches to digital technology for content generation and developing wider vocational skills, “young voices of the present uncover stories from the past to inspire their futures”, and make their own short film to tell their story. Making History was founded by Colin McFarlane in 2010. He was inspired by a story in a script entitled "The Land of Look Behind" that he was directing at the time. In it, a young black teenager is inspired to research black history as a result of stumbling upon the story of the little known black explorer Matthew Henson, the first man to reach the North Pole in 1909. Colin set about finding like-minded souls who shared his vision for providing the same opportunity to students up and down the country to research their cultural and family history and be equally inspired, and Making History was born! In 2014, Making History became a registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1157969).
