About Malay Youth Literary Association 4PM

The Malay Youth Literary Association (4PM) was formed in 1948 with a mission to maximise youth potential for the benefit of the community. Starting off as a small group of enlightened individuals giving tuitions to kids in kampongs, 4PM has evolved into an organisation that not only provides educational assistance to mould young people into useful citizens, but also supports the community’s social and welfare needs. In recognition of its community empowerment services, the association was conferred the Singapore Youth Award (Team) in 2006. The upward progress of the group continues to-date. It has superseded its past achievements by expanding its scope beyond traditional outreach initiatives and has introduced a number of innovative programmes to channelise the talent of the youth in the right direction. 4PM Programmes Ramadan on Wheels (ROW): A youth-inspired annual community outreach programme for the needy that was initiated in 2001. ROW has expanded its reach to residents from one CDC in 2006 to two CDCs since 2008, and thereafter to all the 5 CDCs in Singapore since 2011. Thus far, we have been able to reach out to 1,996 Muslim and non-Muslim clients with the help of 6,326 multiracial volunteers from all walks of life. 4PM was conferred the People’s Association Community Spirit Award in 2011 for this programme. FRENZ is a mentoring programme for youths at ITE who are at high risk of dropping out from school. The programme was introduced in 2010 after holding an ‘Action Review’ on the previous Guide Empower Motivate Support (GEMS) peer mentoring programme. Thus far, FRENZ has been able to reach out to 900 students, and successfully encouraging them to stay in school in the process. Remaja Resilience is an outreach programme which hopes to engage youths on the brink of success through Positive Youth Development. Since 2010, the programme has been able to reach out to over 3000 youths through youth-initiated activities like gigs, camps, etc.
