About Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS)
Our aim is to move men forward, from caring enough to talk about women’s rights, the negative impact of cultural stereotypes on men and male violence against women to taking action on these issues. We support women’s rights and stand in solidarity with the radical feminist / women’s liberation movement. We recognise that men are socialised to adopt and excuse discriminatory, harmful and violent behaviours and beliefs towards women and girls and acknowledge the devastating effect this has on them. We also acknowledge that cultural stereotypes and expectations about what men should be and act like can be damaging to men and society as a whole. Our aim is to support men in becoming better, more empathic human beings and to engage them in education, consciousness raising and activism to counteract sexism and misogyny in particular. To achieve this aim, we organise actions such as pickets, protests and vigils, an annual conference and a book club. The aim of our actions and events is to challenge sexism and misogyny and to challenge ourselves and other men. We do this, to become better human beings. Everyone involved in MACS is a volunteer. All profits that are generated through our events and our annual conference are donated to women’s charities.
