About Mama Rosemary Foundation

Mama Rosemary Foundation supports refugee and migrants to connect with Australian services and society so they and their families can thrive in their new home. With a special focus on women experiencing domestic and family violence, we use our community connections to support the refugees and migrants that other services find hard to reach. A registered charity, Mama Rosemary Foundation was established in 2024 to continue and expand the work Rosemary Kariuki has been undertaking for close to 20 years., for which she was awarded 2021 Australian of the Year Local Hero and an OAM, among other awards. We work to prevent violence, coercive control and other forums of abuse against women and girls. We use social events to reduce social isolation, grow knowledge and help women to learn about how they can overcome their challenges. Our activities include the cultural exchange program, high teas focused on education and connection, coffee clubs for forming lasting friendships, and the African Women's Dinner Dance to celebrate and empower women. We also connect refugees and migrants with employment, education and volunteering opportunities. We rely on grants and donations to keep our service running.
