CELEBRATING SECOND SKIN Manifesto Moda (MM) is a Portuguese project of international collaborative synergies that serves as a dynamic platform connecting academia to industry to international artists. At the core of the project are smart textiles and a brand that aims to be a continual showcase of textile innovation applied to daily wear and particular market niches. Partnerships with renown investigation centers, universities and textile innovation institutes, as well as several textile and nanotechnology companies, allow MM to combine top-of-the-line competences and constantly deliver innovative solutions. MM also serves as a window for artistic talents, combining a multiplicity of innovative creative expressions, not only in the signature of its collection but also in the renovation of formats of communication and fashion presentation. Technology has been redefining the way we live and interact with all and everything around us, becoming ever more human and invisible. Nanotechnology, in particular, allows a qualitative leap beyond many limitations of textile usage, namely through the incorporation of active principles with greater durability and performance at the level of the fiber. Biofunctional fabrics interact constructive and innocuously with the skin and the environment, focusing essentially on the use of fabrics that deliver therapy and dermatological prevention — transforming the clothes into a true ally of health and well-being. Manifesto Moda’s proposal is to push this evolution by introducing functionality, versatility, protection, intelligence and well-being into the daily life of clothes, as well as style into the interactivity with the body and the protected environment.
