About Manor Gardens Welfare Trust
Manor Gardens Welfare Trust (MGWT) has been empowering communities in Islington to improve their health and wellbeing since 1913, addressing systemic and intersectional barriers. We deliver culturally competent, trauma-informed, and person-centred services, annually supporting over 2,500 individuals from diverse backgrounds. Our vision is strong communities where all people enjoy good health, resilience, and opportunity. MGWT provides critical services to address stark inequalities in income, health, and life expectancy. Our current services include: Multilingual Advocacy: Bilingual advocacy in over 12 languages, assisting clients with welfare, housing, healthcare, and navigating complex systems. Mental Health Support: Specialist therapeutic services, including individual and group therapy, notably the Dahlia Project for survivors of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and peer-led mental health groups. Youth Programmes: Targeted support for young people aged 11–19 at risk of gang violence and exploitation. Community Wellbeing: Peer-led wellbeing activities, including support groups, ESOL classes, gardening, community cafes, and activities reducing isolation. Food Security Initiatives: Managing food co-ops, emergency food parcels, hot meals, and chairing the Islington Food Partnership to promote sustainable food systems. Crisis Support: Providing emergency financial aid, practical resources, and warm spaces for individuals facing immediate hardship. Our work is guided by values of resilience, inclusivity, empowerment, and teamwork. We strategically focus on reducing inequalities, strengthening community resilience, fostering partnerships, advancing knowledge and innovation, and ensuring sustainable, operational resilience.
