About Manurewa Eagles American Football Club
Manurewa Eagles American Football Club: Bridging Heritage with Aspiration At the Manurewa Eagles American Football Club, we’re not just playing a game; we’re creating a legacy in Tamaki Makaurau, South Auckland. Our home ground at Mountfort Park is more than a field—it’s where dreams take flight and community bonds strengthen. Founded by Kennedy Kioa Faimanifo, our club is a beacon of hope and unity. We proudly carry the name ‘Manurewa,’ which resonates with the story of a soaring bird, symbolizing our high aspirations and the boundless potential of our rangatahi. The name Manurewa, derived from the Māori word for “kite,” reflects our community’s spirit and the history of a place where kites once glided across the sky, connecting the land and the heavens1. As the newest team in the region, we’ve already left a mark by participating in the NZAFF National Flag Tournament with our Open Men’s team and a Legends team, the latter securing a commendable third place. This achievement is a testament to our commitment and the hard work of our members. Our affiliation with the New Zealand American Football Federation (NZAFF), American Football Auckland (AFA), and by association with the Manurewa Rugby Football Club (MRFC), underscores our dedication to the sport and our community. Looking ahead to the 2024-2025 season, our goal is to equip our youth, aged 12-18, with 30 Certified Safety Helmets & Shoulder Pads. We believe in safe play and equal opportunities for all, especially for our primary demographic of Māori & Pasifika people, who make up 98% of our membership. We invite you to join us on this journey. Whether you’re a corporate sponsor, a local funding organization, or an American Football fan, your support can help us turn aspirations into reality. Manurewa Eagles: Soaring Beyond Boundaries, One Play at a Time.
