Marice Mercuur was born and raised in the tiny Moravian Mission Station of Wupperthal in the Cederberg mountains. This second youngest daughter of rooibos tea farmers Martin and Joyce Goes always knew that rooibos tea had tremendous health and healing properties. However, it wasn’t until Marice’s six month old daughter Gemma developed severe eczema all over her body when Marice decided to put a few rooibos teabags in Gemma’s bathwater. Amazed by the results of her efforts, Marice then started experimenting with glycerine soap and rooibos tea. Since she started using rooibos soap Gemma’s skin never looked better, and shortly thereafter her entire family followed suit, using this product on a daily basis. Encouraged by friends and family Marice continued experimenting with rooibos, and quickly found herself supplying soap to a handful of curio shops and guesthouses in the small West Coast village of Clanwilliam, South Africa. Since then Marice expanded her product range to not just a full handmade range but also an all natural face and haircare range with rooibos as the key ingredient. Every single item produced by Marice is carefully and meticulously made by hand, in her private studio at home. She is firmly committed to using only the best quality ingredients in all of her products and to steer clear of any harmful chemicals and preservatives. Marice believes that her relatively young business venture has all the potential to grow into a meaningful, value-adding and sustainable enterprise that is built on a strong value system that promotes job creation, environmental care and the upliftment of the local community.
