About Marine Corps Engineer School - MCES

Marine Corps Engineer School (MCES) trains entry-level Marines and develops engineer leaders while providing explosive hazards and improvised threat training, capabilities analysis and development, doctrine development and maintenance, and training and education enhancement in order to support proponents and the Marine Air Ground Task Forces. The first Engineer School in the Marine Corps was activated at Quantico, Virginia, as part of the Training Center on 8 May 1941. A four-course curriculum consisted of Refrigeration, Water Distillation and Purification, Demolition, and Camouflaging. Today, MCES provides instruction to approximately 2,000 Marines each year in 21 different programs of instruction, including: Combat engineering (mine detection & removal, demolitions, field fortifications). Horizontal construction (roads, bridges, trails, landing zones, airfields). Vertical construction (buildings & structures, base camps) of a temporary or semi-permanent nature. Earthmoving, material handling, construction equipment & specialized vehicles. Mobile electrical power generation and distribution systems. Handling, storage, transportation & dispensing of fuels for aircraft and ground equipment. Potable water production & storage. Drafting, surveying, mapping & topographical support. Facilities management. Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD).
