MARITECH USA was founded by Captain Michael Trent USN (Ret.) in 2014. Captain Trent currently serves as the Managing Director. Captain Trent is a professional mariner, program manager and entrepreneur with extensive knowledge of the both the military and commercial sectors of the marine industry. His work over the last 25 years has included the development of new technologies and operational concepts for shipboard and shore side application, leadership of military and commercial ship automation projects, and the launch of new lines of business for Vessel Traffic Systems (VTS), Search and Rescue (SAR) and Ship Automation Systems. Captain Trent is a graduate of the US Naval Academy and The Naval Postgraduate School earning a B.S. in Oceanography and M.S. in Systems Engineering. He served 22 years as a Surface Warfare Officer including 2 command tours and NATO assignments in the US, UK and Germany. MARITECH USA also supports the important work of international governing bodies and industry associations (NGOs/IGOs) engaged in the development of technical standards, regulations and "best practices” for the marine industry. Captain Trent serves on the Board of Directors for RTCM and as an IHMA Representative to the IMO and IALA. These efforts focus on technologies related to autonomous shipping, e-navigation, communications, VTS and SAR.
