Marlene Fernandez is a Dutch-Nicaraguan designer who is the creative force behind the label of the same name. Marlene has always been attracted to leather, fashion, design and sustainability so she decided to pursue a career in it. In 2016 she graduated from HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht) as a product designer with her bag collection named CLOSE, for which she received outstanding marks. Subsequently, she followed an intensive course to specialize in handcrafting leather bags, while building her own business and brand. All Marlene Fernandez products are designed and made by Marlene in her studio in Rotterdam. The designs maintain high standards and are only made from quality leather and materials, which mostly come from Europe. To be more environment friendly, avoid wastage and have exclusive bags Marlene only uses dead stock and overproduced leather. Her style is best described as robust yet elegant, with a surprising twist and to play with colors is very important in her designs. Marlene’s passion for traveling and different cultures in the world are visible in the linings of the bags. These are carefully chosen by Marlene during the trips she makes. As all Marlene Fernandez product are handmade on site, many of them can be personalized.
