Martindale’s was established in 1869 and is known as the first health food store and natural market in the US. We specialize in organic, local, gluten-free foods along with natural food supplements Philadelphia's own Thomas Martindale, merchant, civic leader, big game hunter, and author founded our market. His son, Thomas C. Martindale, began importing diabetic foods in 1909 while working in his father’s business. The public became conscious of the need to choose healthy food which led to health food stores being in demand. Find only fresh organic produce here. We work with local area farmers to provide local organic fruits and vegetables as available every day. Get local heirloom tomatoes, greens, melons, and more in season. Local, grass-fed, raw milk and dairy is available here and is very much in demand. All of our many selections of eggs are local and are obtained from a variety of nearby farmers. Get grass fed, humanely raised, local meats in a variety of cuts including local ground beef, burger patties, steaks, and more. Find locally farmed delicious chicken and sausages, too. Find fresh ready-to-eat prepared lunch and dinner foods like salads, sandwiches, and entrees. May as well buy some locally baked bread and cookies to go with it!
