Another Music Platform. Do we underestimate the power of music. Recenty I heard a debate on radio about youth related violence. The presenter took a call from a lady who tried to explain, that she believed, the problem for the youth were the video games and the music to which they were exposed. The presenter was quite indignant in his response and defense of video games and music. He ended the coversation quite abruptly with the retort that it had been proven by the Science and Technology Society that neither the streamimg of video games or music contributes in anyway to peoples behaviour. I would accept nothing less from a Society whose contribution to the advancement in the video animation genre is truly amazing and cannot be faulted. But whose financial gain via this genre is mind boggling. I believe that music plays a hugh part in our social configuration and make up. It is not only the instrumental composition of a song but more importantly the lyrics, the story and the language that guide us to our groups. Imagine an Advert be without music or words. Music videos advertise the artist. It's the music, the lyrics and their visual display that attract us to their group. Imagine a video without music, a musical without songs, a religous gathering without songs of praise, a sport without a fan list, a movie without dramatic music. A country without cultural music. In my youth you could be a Rock 'n Roller, a Hippie, a Punk, a Skinhead or Rocker, and what you wore determined which group you belong to. Does music and video games influence who we are and how we mix socially? At AMP we believe that music can be used to create better social conditions, jobs, and encouraging creativity. Have we relegated musicians to the background? Are companies with a 50 million song playlist really interested in the musician? Or is it all about their products.
