About MATA Architects

MATA Architects is an RIBA chartered architecture practice based in Westminster, Central London. The practice was founded in 2015 by Dan Marks as a collaborative studio to develop projects at a range of scales; from bespoke furniture to new build and open space/public realm. We believe in the value of thoughtful and considered architecture that puts people and communities first. And in the power and capability of inventive and original design to act as a catalyst for positive change. Whether residential, commercial, public or cultural, the spaces we make have the ability to profoundly affect everyday lives. We want to make places that change people’s lives for the better - places that inspire and enrich, not only the lives of all who experience them, but also of those involved in the collaborative process of making them. We believe that architecture should be of it’s place, responding to local context; landscape, culture, history and economy, whilst also bold enough to be original. It is this tension between the old and the new that ultimately produces architecture that is both thought provoking and durable. Our work is guided by the fundamentals – manipulation of light and shadow, honest use of materials put together with the aim of creating spaces that are beautiful but at the same time functional and pragmatic. We enjoy working closely with our clients to create an open and collaborative relationship that results in crafted and bespoke solutions.
