About Matai Youth Camp

Every child has the right to learn, to play, to connect, to feel safe. Every child has the right to a bright future. Our research has shown that youth become lost in the system. Many don’t study further since it may not be an option in their household. We are living in a time, where our youth do not have an option to thrive. Their dreams, goals and aspirations are non- existent due to circumstances, such as unemployment, homelessness, parentless, no guardian present, single parent households, and Senior Citizen Grants’ households. They do not have access to internet or data to access the online schooling. This leads to our youth dropping out of school and turning to adverse recreational activities such as gangsterism and drugs. While others tend to turn to suicide. Our youth have become a lost generation due to circumstance. , we host camps, excursions, reunions, family retreats and team building. Our mission is to change the world of the youth, one step at a time. Campers learn how to create CVs, and prepare for interviews, first aid, health and fitness, hygiene, goal-setting, conflict resolution as well as braaiing, rock climbing. beach activities and hiking. Through mentorship, we focus on issues like: Racism, inequality, segregation, suicide awareness, mental health, anxiety awareness, community activism, gender equality, strengthening civil society interaction with government, tools for knowledge, youth engagement and empowerment, alternative farming, sustainable development, social skills development, administrative and information technology skills - in a bid to fight school dropout rates, youth unemployment, the youth death rate and poverty. This builds their confidence to create a strong foundation for life.
