About Matter of Focus

Matter of Focus combines expert consultancy and software (OutNav) to help organisations and teams work well with complex change and demonstrate their impact. We help you build capacity and skills to bring together data and evidence so you can demonstrate how your initiative makes a difference. We work with organisations that make a positive difference in people’s lives, including government departments, local authorities, health boards, public bodies, and local, national and international charities. Our approach is practical and collaborative: • Consultancy: We help organisations understand complex change and build the skills and confidence to use evaluation effectively. We support teams with theory of change, impact assessment, performance management, quality assurance, and evaluating commissioned services. • OutNav: Our software brings theories of change to life. It helps teams explore, map, analyse and assess the outcomes that matter most — embedding this into day-to-day work for learning, improvement and tracking progress. Our tools and techniques enable organisations to bring together evidence, data and evaluation, while building the capacity and skills of their teams. This ensures projects and programmes meet their outcomes, remain adaptable, maximise impact, and demonstrate success to funders, service-users and other stakeholders. Matter of Focus was founded in 2017 by Dr Ailsa Cook and Dr Sarah Morton, who drew on their extensive expertise to develop a practical, values-based approach to evaluation and impact. We are a certified B Corporation, based in Edinburgh, Scotland
