Maverick’s principle business is the design, development, manufacturing, distribution, and service of Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) check encoders and related application software. MICR encoders are specialized printers used to print symbols and characters on the bottom of paper checks that specify the checking account number, bank routing information, and transaction amount. MICR encoding is the standard technology that the U.S. banking industry and the Federal Reserve use for processing checks through our nation’s banking system and is also being adopted by many other countries’ banks. Banks and financial institutions are the primary end users of MICR encoders as they offer a high level of security against fraud and significantly increase the speed and efficiency of processing checks.
