McAllen Housing Commission Transforming Families - Strengthening Communities The McAllen Housing Authority (MHA) has an essential mission to provide housing assistance for people with low and moderate incomes. As a truly great community, McAllen, Texas offers affordable housing for people across the income spectrum, and MHA is the catalyst for affordable housing in the McAllen area. Since 1939, MHA has provided housing assistance in McAllen, utilizing traditional programs:Public Housing and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers funded by the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In recent years, MHA has updated its housing portfolio with modern mixed-income developments and continues to search for ways to expand affordable housing throughout the city and county. As our community continues to grow and change, MHA continues to develop new strategies to proactively meet the challenges of Transforming Families and Strengthening Communities for the residents of McAllen.
