About McKenzie's Hope

McKenzie's Hope is a not-for-profit center that provides a stable location for a comprehensive team approach to the investigations of child abuse and neglect in Huntington County. McKenzie's Hope desires to reduce trauma, seek justice, and bring hope for every child in Huntington County that is suffering through some form of child abuse. The deaths of MicKenzie Brown in 2000 and Justin McKinzie in 2001, made many in Huntington County open their eyes to the problem of child abuse in our community. Several conversations started at that time about how to better address child abuse in Huntington County. In 2004, a commitment breakfast was held where law enforcement, prosecution, child protection, and medical and mental health services all came together to make a commitment to opening a center to help victims of child abuse. They decided to name the center in memory of MicKenzie and Justin, by naming the center McKenzie's Hope. That same year, McKenzie’s Hope became incorporated and gained the status of an independent not-for-profit, 501© 3 agency under the official name of Huntington County Child Advocacy Center, Inc. By the summer of 2005, the Board of Director’s had formed protocols and secured funding to hire a director, get a building and open McKenzie’s Hope. McKenzie’s Hope opened its doors to clients in January of 2006. As of May 2020, 1657 children and their families have been served at McKenzie’s Hope. It is the goal of the center to help each child and family through this difficult time in their lives in a way that will help them find justice and start the process of healing. McKenzie's Hope is committed to continually serving the children of Huntington County who need a safe and comforting place to get help and to talk about the abuse in their lives. McKenzie's Hope would like to see a future in Huntington County where each child has the promise of a life free from abuse.
