About MDL Investments

MDL Investments was set up in 2014 as a family office. Ligia Apostoaia has been leading MDL Investments as CEO since 2015. She is a graduate of DePaul University, Driehaus school of business, with a BS in Finance and Business Administration. In the first 5 years of operations, MDL focused mostly on real estate deals, including residential rental real estate, senior homes, self-storage, and luxury real estate development. In the last 4 years, our investments focus shifted towards angel investing and venture capital, and a few side private equity deals. However, we continued to add to our real estate portfolio, including a couple of significant investments in commercial properties and condos. Today, our diversified portfolio of assets contains many biotech companies, technology companies, medical devices, fin-tech, and one CPG company. One of our largest investments to date has been a private equity deal in a fast-growing chain of childcare centers called Ladybug and Friends. We invested and continue to be interested in investing in private equity and real estate-related funds. Other holdings include stocks and bonds portfolios, as well as cryptocurrencies. We are proud to mention that we have invested in several companies that are led or founded by Romanians or Romanian-Americans and that we made several investments in Romania. MDL Investments has been a member of Keiretsu Forum since it opened the Chicago Midwest Chapter in 2016. Keiretsu is one of the largest and fastest-growing groups of investors in the United States (and through its over 50 chapters, very active worldwide). Through Keiretsu and private sources, MDL Investments sources and evaluates about 10 deals per month. As a small family office, our internal due-diligence abilities are relatively limited. However, we favor deals coming through Keiretsu or investing in larger liquidity pools such as PE funds.
