About Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois

Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois fosters health and contributes to individual well-being and independence by delivering nutritious meals, medically prescribed diets, and providing other supportive services to the home bound, elderly, disabled and others temporarily unable to care for their nutritional needs. Our service area on the Northshore of Chicago includes: Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Winnetka, Kenilworth, Northfield, Northbrook, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Deerfield, Vernon Hills, Lincolnshire, Libertyville, Gurnee, Waukegan, North Chicago, and areas surrounding. Meals on Wheels NEI provides two meals a day, one hot and one cold, made either in our new community kitchen or, for medically prescribed meals, by Northshore University HealthSystem/Evanston Hospital. All food is low salt, low fat, and low cholesterol. Medically prescribed diets include: diabetic, cardiac, renal, gluten free, or salt free. Meal fees are $8/meal. A sliding scale is available for clients who require a lower fee. Meals on Wheels NEI Volunteers deliver meals Monday through Saturday between 10:15am and 1:30pm. Meals are delivered in all weather and on all holidays. Volunteers use their own vehicles to deliver meals on predetermined routes. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, have a clear background check, have a valid driver's license, and have insurance to drive. Volunteers may work independently or in pairs and sign up for a weekly route.
