About Media Matters for Women
Our mission is to connect African women and girls with information that enables them to know and fully enjoy their rights. Media Matters for Women prioritizes working in countries where women and girls experience significant barriers to accessing education, health, and livelihood services. We work in countries where information and communication technology remains an underdeveloped tool for rural women, who are even further removed from the Information Age than the men whose poverty they share. If women do not learn to use these technologies, they will become further marginalized from their communities and the world. We also choose to work in crisis and post-conflict zones, which often feature a constant background of sexual violence that oppresses women and girls across all aspects of life, including health and wellbeing Media Matters for Women is at the forefront of harnessing the potential of digital technology to enable and connect unmet information needs of women and girls in rural Africa. We are a -U.S.-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 2010 that operates through partnerships with women's rights organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sierra Leone. -U.K. registered charity (No.1185508)
