Medical College of Georgia, founded in 1828, presently a part of Augusta University (named changed by Board of Regents Sept. 2015), is the 13th-oldest continuously operating medical school in the United States and the third-oldest in the Southeast. Currently, it is one of nine colleges that comprise Augusta University. Facilities include modern classrooms and laboratories across two campuses, the 540-bed Georgia Regents Medical Center, the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, extensive outpatient clinics, residence halls, a student center, a wellness center and an outstanding health sciences education library. With approximately 3,000 faculty, staff and residents, GRU, now Augusta University, is one of the largest employers in the Augusta area, with an overall economic impact on the area of more than $2 billion.
